A Father At Last by Julie Mac

Sensible is lawyer Kelly Atkinson’s second name. So how can she love bad boy Ben Carter? Ben is a no‐go area, as far as she’s concerned. There can never be anything between them. Apart from their six‐year‐old son, Dylan.
And Dylan is all the more reason why there can never be anything between them. Kelly’s dad was in trouble with the law when she was a child and she lost him. Never in a million years would she want her darling son to suffer the same fate, the same despair, pain and gut‐wrenching, agonising loss.
No matter how powerful the chemistry between her and Ben. And it’s there, strong and potent as ever.

3/5 stars

Well, for a debut it wasn't that bad.  I'm not sure about the title considering Ben only met his son once and wasn't even properly introduced.  The story was about Kelly and Ben reconnecting after years apart.  Their story started when they were kids and led to a night of passion that resulted in two things a) an unplanned pregnancy and b) a misunderstanding that kept them apart for years. Why Kelly didn't confront Ben that night with what she found instead of running away is beyond me.  If I had such strong feelings for someone I'd like to think I would get answers instead of letting myself think the worst about the supposed love of my life.  But I guess if she had confronted him there would be no book to review.  Would've liked to have read more interaction between Ben and his son especially since the little boy took such a liking to him in that one meeting.  Will definitely keep an eye out for Ms. Mac's upcoming books.

If You Give a Rake a Ruby (Jewels of the Ton #2) by Shana Galen

Her Mysterious Past Is The Best Revenge . . .

Fallon, the Marchioness of Mystery, is a celebrated courtesan with her finger on the pulse of high society. She’s adored by men, hated by their wives. No one knows anything about her past, and she plans to keep it that way.

Only He Can Offer Her A Dazzling Future . . .

Warrick Fitzhugh will do anything to protect his compatriots in the Foreign Office, including seduce Fallon, who he thinks can lead him to the deadliest crime lord in London. He knows he’s putting his life on the line . . .

To Warrick’s shock, Fallon is not who he thinks she is, and the secrets she’s keeping are exactly what make her his heart’s desire . . .

3/5 stars

For some reason this book didn't quite do it for me.  The bad thing is is that I was looking forward to Fallon's story.  I loved the first book in the series and had high hopes for this one, but I just didn't feel the relationship between the Fallon and Warrick.  True to form for Ms. Galen there was a great deal of danger and action that was fun to read.  The romance fell flat, it just seemed as if it was rushed.  One minute Warrick is blackmailing Fallon to help and then the next he's informing her they will be getting married because he loves her.  The involvement of Lily in the action was a nice surprise and I'll be looking forward to reading her book.   Be sure to read in order for the best understanding of why they are The Jewels of the Ton.

Beyond Shame by Kit Rocha

All Noelle Cunningham has ever wanted is a life beyond–beyond the walls of Eden, where only the righteous are allowed to remain, and beyond her stiflingly restrictive existence as a councilman’s daughter. But only ruins lie outside the City, remnants of a society destroyed by solar storms decades earlier.

The sectors surrounding Eden house the corrupt, the criminal–men like Jasper McCray, bootlegger and cage fighter. Jas clawed his way up from nothing to stand at the right hand of Sector Four’s ruthless leader, and he’ll defend the O’Kane gang with his life. But no fight ever prepared him for the exiled City girl who falls at his feet.

Her innocence is undeniable, but so is their intense sexual attraction, and soon they’re crossing every boundary Noelle barely knew she had. But if she wants to belong to Jas, first she’ll have to open herself to the gang, to a dangerous world of sex, lust and violence. A world where passion is power, and freedom is found in submission

Wow! This is a seriously hot and sexy book. If sex with multiple people isn't your thing then you should probably stop reading this and find something in your comfort zone. I wasn't sure what to expect since this was written by Moira Rogers and I love their books, but this is different from their norm.

This book takes place in a future time when men pretty much rule everything including woman. Even though this book has a lot of sex in it it isn't all it's about. There is an actual plot that is pretty damn interesting. I actually wanted to know more about the secondary characters. Looking forward to the next book which is Lex and Dallas at their finest, I'm sure.

How have I never read a book by Ms. Hoyt before is beyond me. I simply loved this book. The characters were great and plot was very entertaining. The way Megs and Godric go from married strangers to a true loving married couple was a very emotional journey for both of them and I'm glad I was along for their second chance to find love. With both of them having former loves the push and pull of their relationship was a great way to reintroduce them to each other after being separated for two years. Add in the mystery of the Ghost of St. Giles and this was just a perfect example of what the historical romance genre is all about.

I read this book without having read the previous books in the series and didn't feel as if I missed out on too much, though reading in order would help in the introduction of certain key characters in this book. I will be going back and reading the series from the beginning including this one again. Recommend to lovers of the historical romance genre.

Their relationship is now put to the ultimate test..

Winston Lane soon regains his physical strength but his face and heart still bear the scars of the vicious attack. Drawn into the darkest depths of London, Winston must fight an evil demon that wants to take away the last hope of reconciliation with his wife. As a former police inspector, Winston has intelligence and logic on his side. But it will take the strength of Poppy's love for him to defeat the forces that threaten to tear them apart.

4/5 stars

Well, this was definitely the most emotional book of the series. It was like riding a roller coaster with Poppy and Winston. They were so good together through the first two books then the attack happened to Winston and it tore them apart. I was glad to see that they could work through all the drama and half-truths and figure out what their relationship really meant to each other. This is a really good series and I can't wait to see where it's headed with the addition of the new person the sisters just found out about. Recommend this book, but to get the full impact of the story it should be read in order.

Heart of the Demon (Warriors of the Rift #3) by Cynthia Garner

Once a generation, the rift between the paranormal world and the human world opens, allowing supernatural entities to cross. Vampire, demon, or shapeshifter, they can save the world-or send it spiraling into chaos.

The next opening of the rift is coming-and its consequences will be deadly. If she successfully infiltrates the dangerous faction, the sins of her past will be forgiven.

Keira isn't the only agent working against the rogue prets. Finn Evnissyen, a powerful demon with a dark lineage, is a hired assassin looking for a way out. If he stops the threat, he will finally earn his freedom. As the rift fast approaches, and danger escalates, Finn and Keira must discover if they're on the same side-or sleeping with the enemy . ..

4/5 stars

I've always wondered what type of guy Finn was ever since he came strutting in to mess with Nix. Well, I definitely found out...a good guy that does bad things for good reasons. Oh yeah, a really hot guy that goes for what he wants whether that be freedom from Luc or the love of a good woman. Keira was a great match for Finn. I loved the way she didn't take any crap from him.

I think this was my favorite out of the series so far. I wasn't too sure about this series when I first started, but the more I read of this series the better it gets. I totally got sucked into this book and can't wait for more. I've recommended this series before and will gladly do so again
