I wasn't sure if Aubrey was gonna be a decent person in this book or if I would even like her after the peeks of her we've had in other books, but surprisingly she was a pretty decent, if not heartbreaking at times. Of course Ben was great. All brooding alpha man that wants the fun stuff but not the relationship. Everyone else in Lucky Harbor was as nosey as ever, which is always great. This is a town that you either want to live in or visit often and be friends with everyone from the sexy mysterious boat builder, Sam, to the incredibly entertaining senior citizens. I definitely look forward to each installment of this light hearted romantic series. Totally recommend to anyone who likes their romance on the sweet side.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I absolutely love Kristen Ashley's books, but this is a new series for me cause I just recently found her. I know...I must've been living under a rock or something! I've read the Rock Chicks, Dream Men, Chaos series and started the Unfinished Heroes and loved every steamy adrenalin soaked minute of them and had heard of the Colorado series, but hadn't dived into them yet so when this book came up on Netgalley I figured it be the perfect chance to try it. I'm glad I did! Though, I must admit to taking a couple extra days to read it because the first 1/3 is completely emotionally exhausting....well, the whole book is emotional, but the beginning was rough. I admit to shedding a few tears. Zara was such a strong woman to grow up the way she did and to be able to deal with Ham the way she did. I honesty don't think I could've walked away. And Ham....what can you say about Ham? He's completely an alpha man that's for sure, but he's also kind, affectionate, protective, sexy, gruff, sometimes a little dickish, but you always know where you stand with him. Loved the entire book. Every bit of sadness, happiness, the incredible sex, the vishious fighting, just everything. So, why did I take half a star away? Well, he sounds like every guy in the above series I mentioned. The way they talk with clipped short sentences and certain mannerisms. As Ham is talking I can picture Tack or Mitch or Lee saying the exact same thing the exact same way. It's not bad, just the same. Would and will still recommend this book to every single reader I know.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I'm sorry, but I've got to get this out. There have been a couple things that have come up recently in another blog post on a different website that I've been thinking about recently. It deals with the new trends in books nowadays. Hopefully you'll indulge me my opinion here.

#1. Billionaires. I don't get the obsession with them. Sure they're rich, but why would you want to deal with a man who has everything and buys everything he wants. I would rather have a down to earth man who's making a comfortable living and respects people for hard work. I'm sure it would be nice to just jump on a plane and fly to Paris or Hong Kong or wherever, but it would be nicer if you earned it. And it seems as if they're all into BDSM now.

#2. New Adult Genre. Every one of these books are pretty much the same thing. They're written in first person. They have an emotional/physically damaged girl. A bad boy who makes every thing better. Lots of clenching, throbbing, fluttering vaginas. And nothing is solved in one book; the author feels they must stretch the book out for multiple books, which brings me to....

#3. Episodes. Why must authors now write one book, but break it into 4, 5, or 6 episodes? If I buy a book I want to read a story from beginning to end. I absolutely hate to start a book and get to the end only to find out that it ends abruptly and I have to buy another book to find out how it actually ends. I hate paying for each episode and having to wait a month or more between each one. Honestly, most of the time I forget about them.

#4. Short petite woman. I have nothing against short petite woman personally, but it seems as if every book I've read in the past 6 months has the main female as under 5'5" and slim build matched up with big hulking 6' 2 and taller men. It could be the type of books I'm reading, but seriously? There are women out there taller then 5' 5" and weight more then 105 pounds. I'm guess most of my friends fall into the category of definitely weighing more then that and range in height up to around 5'11". Maybe I'm too picky, but when I read about a woman who is 5' 2" fitting perfectly with a man 6'5" all I do is laugh, because I honestly don't see it.

Keep in mind this is MY opinion and you are more then welcome to disagree.Angiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15877917795561068537noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4085512715332256042.post-63753455470721410862013-11-04T15:28:00.004-05:002013-11-04T15:28:46.826-05:00Long Time Gone (Hell or High Water #2) by SE Jakes

Which means he must’ve driven his lover away.

Even with half a world between them, Prophet can’t get the man out of his head. Maybe that’s why he’s in New Orleans in the middle of a hurricane, protecting Tom’s aunt. But the only looter around is Tom, bursting back into Prophet’s life. It turns out that Prophet’s been stuck in Tom’s head—and heart—too.

Their explosive reunion gets even hotter when Tom is arrested for murder. Never has so much happened with so little action. That didn't come out the exact way I mean it. There is plenty of action, what with a hurricane, murders, police chases, swamps, alligators, stoners and even an air boat. But for most of the book it's just Tom and Prophet alone in a cabin in the swamp and believe me....that is such a good thing! They finally get to confront each other, their fears and their future together and they come out of that swamp with a better partnership then when they went in. These two strong alpha men realized so much about themselves and each other, not to say everything is all sunshine and roses, they are far from that, but at least they're on the same chapter if not the same page.

I loved everything about this book. The men, the storyline, the setting, the angst, and definitely the sex (no wonder that swamp was so steamy with those two in it). I can't wait for more in this series. I'm dying to know more about the über mysterious Cillian and those men following Prophet around doing good deeds without being seen. Love it love it love it! I think anybody who isn't offended by two men loving each other and loving hard would enjoy this book and hopefully fall for these guys too. They remind me so much of Ty and Zane (from the Cut & Run series by Abigail Roux and Madeline Urban) mixed with a little Will and Taylor (Dangerous Ground by Josh Lanyon) and that is never a bad combination.

So, here I am celebrating my great-nephew's 3rd birthday. That's my niece, Jessica, with me. I decided I'd try to do a little fundraising for a new van or at least a newer van. I've got a beast of a van, a 1985 Econoline, that only works if it feels like it which isn't very often. So Jess and I put our heads together (much like in the picture above) and having been on the look out for a legit fundraising site that didn't take too much of the actual donations and I finally found one with the help of my best friend, Megan. It's called GoFundMe and it is a fabulous site that has helped a lot of people.

I've filled out the necessary form, uploaded a picture and have now posted on Facebook and Twitter. I've sent emails out and now my final stop is here. If anyone is interested in helping out by either a donation or simply by sharing my link I would be forever grateful. Here is the link.......
Zack is my favorite Sullivan now; it's official. I'm so happy I took a chance on reading this series because each book just keeps getting better with each sibling. I'm so emotionally invested in this family right now I feel as if I know them personally or maybe grew up with them and have reconnected after years apart. Heather and Zack were absolutely perfect for each other in every way. They each gave the other exactly what they needed. I think Heather will make a damn fine Sullivan too. I'm excited to read Ryan's story next, but at the same time I know I'm one book closer to the end of the series and I'm definitely not looking forward to that. I'm fairly new to Katie Reus and have read a couple of her books in each genre she writes and have come to the conclusion that she is one hellva writer. This was my first book of this series and I can already tell you that I'm itching to go buy the rest of them. I didn't feel as if I lost anything in not reading the other books first, so this can be read as a stand alone. My only complaint with this book is it was too short! I want more Vincent and Jordan. There was the insta-love that I usually don't like, but with these two it worked since they'd had a prior relationship. I can't wait to read more from this series, but since I haven't read the first six, I definitely have something to tide me over.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
I have loved Rowdy from the very moment he burst into this series and have been looking forward to reading his story from the beginning. He so needed a HEA and I think Avery was perfect for him. At times his story was sad and other times I couldn't help but shake my head at his antics. He's just so damn lovable even when he's being a jerk. Hopefully there will be more books in this series (Dash and Cannon) because I can't wait to see peaks of his life as a married man and eventually a father (you just know he'll make a kick-ass father). Strongly recommend this book, but even though it can be read as a stand alone in order to get the full effect of his awesomeness it should be read in order.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.Angiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15877917795561068537noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4085512715332256042.post-76853250932612377062013-09-23T17:30:00.003-04:002013-09-23T17:30:52.737-04:00The Lost Wolf's Destiny (Harlequin Nocturne #167) by Karen Whiddon

This was the first book by Ms. Whiddon that I've read and I was looking forward to discovering a new author, but I'm not sure this is the author for me. I was first drawn in by the beautiful cover then the blurb sounded promising. I just found myself rolling my eyes enough to make me dizzy. I just couldn't stand some of the decisions made by both MCs and though the idea of the book sounded great it just didn't deliver. There was a lot of repeating, too. I guess maybe if I had read some of the prior books of this series I would've had a better understanding of what being Pack meant or was suppose to mean, but I found them almost as bad as the church. I mean, they steal the sick child away from her mother after the stuff she went thru with the church? But it was for her own good. Really?! There were other things I disliked but I don't want to write anymore spoilers. This is just a series I'll pass on in the future, but I encourage you to make your own decision.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

After reading mixed reviews about this book I decided that I just needed to read it myself. What I decided was that I really liked it which is odd considering there are so many things about the book that I usually find unappealing. For instance, I tend to stay far away from New Adult genre (IMO they all have the same plot...two people who are broken by some tragic secret can only be saved by each other) I hate reading about millionaires/billionaires who are into BDSM and I really dislike moustache-twirling bad guys (here there was a couple...debt collector #2, dudes from Geek Club). But somehow I found myself sucked into this story. I liked Max and just really liked the way he dealt with Makayla. He wanted to protect her so bad that it came out almost controlling but he knew she wouldn't put up with it so he compromised with her....sorta. Makayla definitely had some spunk to her and at times I found her quite comical other times I wanted to shake the stupid out of her but overall I liked her. I'd love to read more about these guys at Redemption, though I'd love to get rid of some of the nicknames.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Private Investigator Nikki James has a lot to contend with. Her lover, Michael Kelly, walked out without so much as a goodbye, and what seemed like a simple case of stopping a runaway teen brought her face-to-face with another clutch of deadly vampires. But if that seemed bad, it is about to get a lot worse, because when Michael returns, it is not for her, but for the case.

Wealthy men are starting to vanish from a resort in Jackson Hole—which is exactly where Nikki’s runaway teen seems to be as well. Something nefarious is going on at the luxury spa, but what? The last thing Michael needs is a confrontation with Nikki—especially when his control over his bloodlust is still so tenuous. But posing as a newlywed couple at the swanky resort may be the best way for both of them to solve their respective cases. This time, Nikki is determined to make Michael see that life apart is worse than death. Yet before she can make him see the light, a specter from Michael’s past rises that could destroy any hope she has of a future with him. Because this time the threat isn’t physical. It’s a matter of the heart.
I'm really happy that the author decided to reissue these books because even though they were on my TBR pile they were way at the bottom of that pile. When I saw them offered at Netgalley I though it was a perfect time to read them and I'm very happy with that decision. Nikki and Michael are a great couple and their relationship is full of that delightful tension that compels you to want to read more and hope that they get together in the end. The secondary characters are well rounded and are actually believable as real people especially Jake. I can't wait to read the next book and hope there will be more in the future.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Even though I just picked this series up with the last book I'm totally loving it. Its full of romance and adventure and of course very desirable men that make your blood run hot. In this book we have Ty, who I only met through the last book (and much too briefly) but I gather he has been in a couple previous books and his client/romantic interest Haley. With his laid-back country boy and ex-military background, Ty was pretty popular with the ladies (and me) even though he hadn't met that one lady he could see himself with until he sees Haley smiling at him. He agrees to help her look into the supposed accidental death of her father as a favor to her great aunt and his good friend, Ellie. That is when the fun began. Throughout their investigation they learn that her father was indeed murdered but more importantly Haley learns that taking a chance on someone isn't the scariest thing out there but living a life without Ty might be.

I really liked this book and its non-stop action; just when they thought they were safe something or someone else came along to shake things up. I really want to go back and read this series from the beginning because these characters are fascinating. Even though this is a series with reoccuring characters Ms. Martin does a great job of recapping the stories when it's needed. Can't wait to read more of these books.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I really love this series and find the concept of the Sons of Sins or a "bunch of bastards" (as they've been called) intriguing. We always read about the member of the Ton that's born out of wedlock, but we never get to read about how the status of being born a bastard really makes them feel. Most times the character isn't bothered by it and life goes on its merry way. In this book Richard acts as if he's not affected but deep down he just wants to be seen as the rightful heir to the baronetcy and thinks finding the family jewel will do that. That's when he comes to meet Genevieve and suddenly the jewel is the last thing on his mind.

I felt as if parts of the book dragged a bit but for the most part this was a great book full of romance and plenty of conflict between two suitors. I loved getting to know Cam a little better and can't wait to meet the woman who upsets his tidy life. Once he met Frankie he fought himself even more and the attraction he felt for her. Their attraction was evident from the start and their sexual tension was off the charts. I think Frankie was a great match for him because she forced him to look within himself and to deal with his half blood status. If only they would've talked a little more they could've skipped so many misunderstandings.

I liked this world and am excited to read more about the group known as the Execution Underground. My only reason for not giving this book a 5 star rating is because of the group of guys. They have the big fight in Jace's apartment then we don't hear anything from them until the end when they come to the warehouse, but that's all we know....that they show up....nothing more. No interaction with Jace and/or Frankie at all. I guess it was left this way to help lead into the next book, but I would've liked some closure on Jace's issues with the group. Would still recommend this book though to anyone who likes paranormal romance.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Human/vampire relations are in turmoil in a stunning new series by New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Susan Krinard

Tensions between human and vampire factions are escalating. Peace hangs in the balance. And like two ill-fated stars, Alexia Fox and Damon are destined to collide. She's a seductive human operative on a mission to infiltrate an illegal vampire colony. He's a vampire and represents everything she loathes-and all that she desires. Their attraction is scorching, immediate...and could explode like the fragile truce they've both been fighting independently to preserve. Now the world's last hope hinges on their ability to work together. As enemies they are doomed, but as allies they just might save the world.
This book was kinda hard to get into at first because of the amount of information that is given to us. There are humans, vampires that live in the night, vampires that can walk in the day, two different types of half vampire half humans and some weird creature that I'm still not sure what they are exactly. All these creatures live between three areas and there is lots of political fighting. That's just stuff you learn in the first couple chapters. Then mix in double agents and science experiments and it kinda confused me in parts and I had to reread a few paragraphs to make sure I knew what was going on and I'm pretty sure I've got it.....maybe. I definitely liked the second half of the book al much better. The relationship between the two MCs was one that I was actually rooting for since the second they laid eyes on each other. They were both strong fierce people that needed each other in more ways then they realized. Their sense of honor and commitment to their own factions was something neither one could overlook, but they both wanted to so bad you could feel it raidate of the page. Looking forward to see if there will be more about this unique world.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Class of 1993

Well, this past Saturday I attended my high school reunion. 20 years....where has the time gone? It seems as if only yesterday I had stars in my eyes as I walked across that stage to be handed my diploma. It seems I had such great plans to knock the world off its ass, but real life caught up to me and it seemed no matter what I did I kept making the wrong choices. I quit college thinking I'd go back the next semester and never quite got back into the swing of academia. So, I entered the work force (working my butt off for very little money) and deciding that I would be better off living on my own. Big mistake. But of course through the years I've also made some wise choices, traveled the country and made some incredible friends none of which I wouldn't have been able to do without the support of people I meet in high school. And when I had my accident 11 years ago I realized I still a great number of friends from school who stuck by me through the worse of it.

My point to all this babbling is that it was nice to reconnect with old friends I hadn't seen since that last day of walking the halls of Floyd Central and it was great to see where everyone ended up in life so far. I can't wait to see where we'll be in another 5, 10 or even 20 years from now. Some of my best memories where with these people and I hope we can make many more.Angiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15877917795561068537noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4085512715332256042.post-4642856217634365462013-08-08T19:16:00.001-04:002013-08-08T19:16:39.511-04:00The Night Is Alive (Krewe of Hunters #10) by Heather Graham

And one of the most haunted places in Savannah is a tavern called The Dragonslayer, built in the 1750s. The current owner, Gus Anderson, is a descendant of the original innkeeper and his pirate brother, Blue.

Gus summons his granddaughter, Abigail, home from Virginia, where she's studying at the FBI Academy. When she arrives, she's devastated to find him dead. Murdered. But Abby soon learns that Gus isn't the only one to meet a brutal and untimely end; there've been at least two other victims. Then Captain Blue Anderson starts making ghostly appearances, and the FBI's paranormal investigation unit, the Krewe of Hunters, sends in Agent Malachi Gordon.

Abby and Malachi have a similar ability to connect with the dead...and a similar stubbornness. Sparks immediately begin to fly—sparks of attraction and discord. But as the death toll rises, they have to trust each other or they, too, might find themselves among the dead haunting old Savannah!

I have enjoyed this series each time I've read one of the books, granted I picked it up in the middle and am slowly trying to catch up my reading and while most of the core characters are in each book it's not necessary to be strict about the reading order, which I really like. So this one takes place in Savannah and involves pirates (who doesn't like pirates especially gentlemen pirates?) and underground tunnels with a dash of ghost thrown in. When Abby is first introduced to Malachi she was a bitch that I wasn't sure I'd like but I guess I'd feel the same in her circumstances. Just graduating from the academy then losing my grandfather while everyone thinks I'm seeing conspiracy theories all around me? Yeah, I get it. I'd be prickly too. Malachi took it like a champ though. The actual mystery was a pretty good one....I kept changing my mind on who I thought it was and didn't figure it out til the very end. These books are always a recommend for me. Looking forward to more of these books.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I finally bought a new laptop after having my last one for almost seven years. I'm so excited I'm about to bust! Of course now I get to figure out all the new tricks and shortcuts. I'll also finally be able to starting blogging again instead of just hit and missing it. So, I'm off to play around for awhile.
Cynthia Eden fan. This is the first contemporary book of Herr's I've
read and it didn't disappoint. Lots of action, plenty of suspense and a
wonderful romance kept this book rolling. Gunner....such a strong man,
the kind you definitely want at your back. The kind of man any woman
would be proud to call her own. The kind of man you want in your bed
cause you know he's all kinds of intense! Sydney, man that woman is
strong. The things she had to deal with would've put me in my bed for
months just trying to let it all pass. The two of them together?
Phenomenal! Now I've just got to go back and read the first two books.
Hopefully Ms. Eden will keep cranking these books out cause I'm hooked. I
read this as a stand alone and had no problems knowing what was going
on, but I'm sure they're much better read in order. Totally recommend.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I had this book on my TBR pile for awhile and just never got around to it for one reason or another so once I got an ARC from Netgalley I no longer had an excuse for not reading it. I can honestly say I should have read this book much sooner. I really liked it. While it had the usual traits of vampires, drinking blood, sunlight aversion, and invitations to enter a residence, it also had a few new ones that I thought were pretty cool. Nikki's was a strong woman that had a bit of vulnerability to her that meshed really well. Her mysterious new friend, Michael, was just as vulnerable when it came to love. Good thing they hooked up together to figure it all out. Oh, and they solved the problem of a power hungry vampire while trying to deny their feelings. Jake was a great fatherly character too that held his own against vampires and irate fathers/clients. Can't wait to start the next book cause this one left me hanging about their relationship. Definitely recommend this to PNR lovers.
Beaumont Body Shop. The series will be about the four best friends that
work together at the body shop and also run a <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/639865487#" id="_GPLITA_0" style="text-decoration: underline;" title="Click to Continue > by DealDropDown">private investigation business.
This book was about Kage Archer, a total alpha, who is trying to help
his best friend's sister, Jane, who also happens to be the love of his
life. He was a man who was also trying to stay clear of his family's
legacy of running the criminal underground and so far it has been
working. Enter Jane. Jane has finally left her abusive boyfriend and
needs all the help she can get to stay away from him, although she
doesn't think so or at least won't admit it. At times she does the
dumbest things that actually puts her in more danger and drives Kage
insane.

<a href="http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/639865487#" id="_GPLITA_1" style="text-decoration: underline;" title="Click to Continue > by DealDropDown">The relationship
between Kage and Jane was a sort of rekindled romance that made it
easier to see how they could jump into a relationship so fast after her
recent breakup. It was hot at times and definitely sweet at other times.
I thought at times Kage had the patience of a saint for putting up with
her and some of the stuff she said or did. I liked the interaction
between all the guys in the shop and can't wait to read their stories.

I
recommend this to people who like to read Kristen Ashley and Julie Ann
Walker. The guys are very alpha and know what's best for everyone
especially their woman. Be warned the prologue is a scene of domestic
violence that was pretty brutal.Angiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15877917795561068537noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4085512715332256042.post-8679723615784966382013-07-14T18:50:00.000-04:002013-07-14T18:50:08.580-04:00 Unseen (Will Trent #7) by Karin Slaughter

Karin Slaughter’s New
York Times bestselling novels are utterly riveting and masterfully
drawn. Her latest thriller, Unseen, pits detectives, lovers, and enemies
against one another in an unforgettable standoff between righteous
courage and deepest evil.

Bill Black is a scary guy: a tall
ex-con who rides to work on a Harley and trails an air of violence
wherever he goes. In Macon, Georgia, Bill has caught the eye of a wiry
little drug dealer and his cunning girlfriend. They think Bill might be a
useful ally. They don’t know that Bill is actually a Georgia Bureau of
Investigation agent named Will Trent. Or that he is fighting his own
demons, undercover and cut off from the support of Sara Linton—the woman
he loves, who cannot be told of the risk Will is taking.

Sara
herself has come to Macon because of a cop shooting: Her stepson, Jared,
has been gunned down in his own home. Sara holds Lena, Jared’s wife,
responsible: Lena, a detective, has been a magnet for trouble all her
life, and Jared’s death is not the first time someone Sara loved got
caught in the crossfire. Furious, Sara finds herself involved in the
same case that Will is working without even knowing it, and soon danger
is swirling around both of them.

In a novel of fierce intensity,
shifting allegiances, and shocking twists, two investigations collide
with a conspiracy straddling both sides of the law. Karin Slaughter’s
latest is both an electrifying thriller and a piercing study of human
nature: what happens when good people face the unseen evils in their
lives.
This book brought out so many emotions in me while I was reading it.
There was disgust, not for the book or the writing, but because of some
of the actions of a few characters. Sadness was the emotion I felt the
most of as the book opened to a very sad exchange between husband and
wife followed by more sadness with the hospital. Will and Sara were also
dealing with feelings that were depressing, but very much needed. Happy
wasn't something I felt a lot of while reading this, but there were a
few times when it came up. Relief was felt as I finished because I could
then go back and buy the first six books of the series. As per my usual
habit, I picked up this without having read any of the Will Trent or
Sara Tipton series beforehand and while it would've made the book a 5
star rating if i had due to the fact all the characters had been central
figures in past books, I had no problem following along. I highly
recommend this book, but be aware that it's very dark at times and there
are parts describing non- consentual sex.

read so far, but I wasn't as excited by this book. It might be because I
never warmed up to either character. Lanie was always the dumb bitch
that followed her equally dumb ass boyfriend who was on the run from the
mob. I've watched enough movies and read enough books to know that
dealing with the mob in any fashion is a huge fucking mistake. And for
some reason I always pictures Hop as an older overweight biker, so
imagine my surprise to find out he was a tight hot guy who's just
misunderstood. There also wasn't really anything going on but sex and
fighting. Where was the kidnapping, the bad guys doing bad guy stuff,
the gunfights and explosions? Granted there was a tiny gunfight (that
had already been dealt with in the last book) and Benito's guys showed
up for a couple paragraphs, but the usual KA drama wasn't there.
Hopefully in the next book we'll get the over-the-top drama that I've
come to relate to Ms. Ashley. Will I recommend this book? Absolutely.
Will I read it again? Probably not, cause there are too many other KA
books that are much better. At this point all the guys are starting to
run together (they all look alike, talk alike and act alike) while the
ladies are nice, polite, put together. Where are the crazy ladies like
the Rock Chicks?
